Meta AnalysisStandard triple therapy in Helicobacter pylori eradication in Turkey: Systematic evaluation and meta-analysis of 10-year studies.
This study aims at evaluating the mean eradication rate by a systematic compilation of the studies which involved the standard triple therapy (STT) in first-line Helicobacter pylori (Hp) eradication in Turkey over a period of 10 years between 2004 and 2013 using the meta-analysis method. ⋯ A systematic meta-analysis of studies conducted during the period 2004-2013 in Turkey revealed that the rate of first-line Hp eradication using STT was unacceptably low, and the duration of treatment and PPI used made no difference.

ReviewDoes the treatment of proton pump inhibitors reduce dysplasia or adenocarcinoma development in Barrett's esophagus?
Besides reducing the reflux symptoms, the benefit of proton pump inhibitors (PPI) in the treatment of Barrett's esophagus (BE) is not exactly known. The data in the literature show that although the PPI treatment does not reduce the Barrett's segment length, it can reduce dysplasia or the development of early-stage adenocarcinoma (odds ratio (OR): 0.46). Therefore, treatments with PPI may be considered in patients with a diagnosis of BE and at a high risk of adenocarcinoma, even though they are not symptomatic.

ReviewEndoscopic ultrasound-guided tissue sampling: How can we improve the results?
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) enables a gastroenterologist to sample the masses of the middle and inferior mediastinum, which are adjacent to the esophagus; cystic or solid lesions of the pancreas, which are adjacent to the stomach and duodenum; and perirectal lesions. Needles used for EUS sampling include aspiration (19, 20, and 22 Gauge) or core biopsy needles (ProCore and Trucut) (19, 20, and 22 Gauge). ⋯ Diagnostic efficacy of EUS-guided fine-needle aspiration or core biopsy depends on the experience of an endoscopist and a cytopathologist. In the presence of an experienced endoscopist and cytopathologist, the size of the needle does not have any significant impact on the diagnostic success.

Review Case ReportsMeckel's diverticulum detected by computed tomographic enterography: report of 3 cases and review of the literature.
Meckel's diverticulum is a common anomaly of the small intestine and occasionally presents as obscure gastrointestinal hemorrhage. Before operation, it is difficult to diagnose by imaging, especially in adults. Conventional abdominal computed tomography and endoscopy have limitations for the diagnosis of Meckel's diverticulum. ⋯ However, outpouching structures of the distal ileum with enhancement were detected by computed tomographic enterography. All patients underwent small bowel segmental resection. Meckel's diverticulum was confirmed by histopathology of the resected ileum segment, and the type of heterotopic tissue was gastric mucosa.

Review Case ReportsLower gastrointestinal bleeding, hematuria and splenic hemangiomas in Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome: a case report and literature review.
Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome is a congenital vascular anomaly characterized by a triad of varicose veins, cutaneous capillary malformation, and hypertrophy of bone and soft tissue. Gastrointestinal and genitourinary vascular malformations in Klippel- Trenaunay syndrome may present with lower gastrointestinal bleeding and hematuria. The majority of patients with splenic hemangiomatosis are asymptomatic. ⋯ Postoperative follow-up has been uneventful for six months since the operation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome case presenting with lower gastrointestinal bleeding, hematuria and splenic hemangiomas. The literature on the evaluation and management of lower gastrointestinal and genitourinary bleeding in Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome is reviewed.
