Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Comparison of 4 techniques for general anesthesia for carotid endarterectomy: inflammatory response, cardiocirculatory complications, and postoperative analgesia].
[corrected] To study the analgesia, hemodynamic stability and inflammatory response in patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy under different types of general anesthesia. ⋯ Increased levels of IL-6 in peripheral blood and of systemic inflammatory response syndrome were found in the early postoperative period in groups that did not receive halogenated gases. Hemodynamic stability and analgesia were similar in all groups, however.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Comparison of 4 techniques for internal saphenous nerve block].
To assess the efficacy of 4 techniques for internal saphenous nerve block with 10 mL of 1.5% mepivacaine. ⋯ The femoral nerve approach in the inguinal region, with nerve stimulator, to block the internal saphenous nerve led to a larger number of successful blocks than did the paravenous or transsartorial approaches, or the technique of subcutaneous infiltration between the tibial tuberosity and internal gastrocnemius muscle.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial[Precurarization with rocuronium prevents fasciculations and biochemical changes after succinylcholine administration].
To determine the efficacy of rocuronium to prevent fasciculations and biochemical changes after succinylcholine administration. ⋯ Precurarization with rocuronium 90 seconds before succinylcholine administration reduces the incidence and severity of fasciculations and prevents increases in serum potassium and myoglobin concentrations.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Clinical effects and pharmacokinetics of ropivacaine and bupivacaine for epidural analgesia during labor].
To compare the analgesic efficacy, pharmacokinetics and histamine release of ropivacaine and bupivacaine with fentanyl in continuous epidural perfusion during labor and childbirth. ⋯ Analgesia was equally effective in both groups, without adverse maternal-fetal effects, with spontaneous micturition and absence of motor blockade in both groups. The plasma concentrations were higher with ropivacaine but were not toxic.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Sciatic nerve block with 1% mepivacaine for foot surgery: posterior versus lateral approach to the popliteal fossa].
To compare the efficacy and feasibility of the sciatic nerve block performed using either a posterior or a lateral approach to the popliteal fossa, taking into consideration patient comfort during puncture and postoperative analgesia. ⋯ The lateral approach to the block of the sciatic nerve in the popliteal fossa provides analgesia comparable to that obtained with the posterior approach, with a faster onset and longer postoperative duration.
