Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyProspective, randomized comparative study of ultrasound-guided blocking of the lateral cutaneous branches of the intercostal nerves versus conventional analgesia in non-reconstructive breast surgery.
The objective of this study is to determine whether the accomplishment of an interfascial blockade, the blocking of the cutaneous branches of the intercostal nerves in the axillary line (BRILMA) associated with a multimodal analgesic regimen improves post-operative analgesia and allows saving opioids after non-reconstructive surgery of breast. ⋯ In non-reconstructive breast surgery, performing a BRILMA block allows obtaining lower pain scores, which implies less need for rescue analgesics and a significant saving of tramadol in the study period.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyAir-Q® versus LMA Fastrach™ for fiberoptic-guided intubation: A randomized cross-over manikin trial.
Airway management is still a major cause of anesthesia-associated morbidity and mortality. Supraglottic devices are recommended in difficult airway management guidelines. The aim of this study was to compare the performance of the Air-Q® and the LMA Fastrach™ for fiberoptic guided tracheal intubation. ⋯ Inexperienced anesthesia residents can perform fiberoptic-guided intubation through Air-Q® and LMA Fastrach™ in a clinically acceptable time with high success.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyHaemodynamic response and effectiveness of tracheal intubation with Airtraq® versus Macintosh laryngoscope in paediatric patient undergoing elective surgery: Prospective, randomised and blind clinical trial.
To compare the haemodynamic response and effectiveness of tracheal intubation with Airtraq® device and Macintosh laryngoscope, for airway management of patients between 2 and 8 years undergoing elective surgery. ⋯ Intubation with Airtraq® device is more effective than Macintosh laryngoscope in terms of reduction of haemodynamic changes, SO2, EtCO2, time and number of attempts for intubation and complications in paediatric patients undergoing elective surgery.

Randomized Controlled TrialWhether preventive low dose magnesium sulphate infusion has an influence on postoperative pain perception and the level of serum beta-endorphin throughout the total abdominal hysterectomy.
Due to the known role of preventive low dose magnesium sulphate on postoperative pain management, in this randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study, we tried to investigate the possible relationship between low dose intra-operative magnesium sulphate infusion, postoperative analgesia and the level of serum beta-endorphin during total abdominal hysterectomy under general anesthesia. ⋯ We illustrated that preventive low dose intra-operative magnesium sulphate infusion reduces postoperative pain, has opioid sparing effect and declines serum beta-endorphin concentration during total abdominal hysterectomy.

Randomized Controlled TrialEfficacy of ultrasound-guided transversus abdominis plane block in laparoscopic hysterectomy. Clinical trial.
Transversus abdominis plane block is a regional anaesthesia technique that has proven to be effective for postoperative pain reduction in different abdominal surgical procedures. This study evaluated its efficacy on post laparoscopic hysterectomy pain intensity and analgesic consumption. ⋯ Adding a transversus abdominis plane block technique to opioid PCA does not seem to improve postoperative pain management in laparoscopic hysterectomy. Patient preparation time and costs could be incremented and complications (although rare) related to the technique could appear.
