ReviewPractical recommendations in the obstetrical patient with a COVID-19 infection.
COVID-19 infection also affects obstetric patients. Regular obstetric care has continued despite the pandemic. Case series of obstetric patients have been published. ⋯ The protection and safety of professionals is a key point and in case of general anesthesia, so it is also recommended to call to the most expert anesthesiologist. Seriously ill patients should be recognized quickly and early, in order to provide them with the appropriate treatment as soon as possible. Susceptibility to thrombosis makes prophylactic anticoagulation a priority.

ReviewEffectiveness of different supralottic airways during resuscitation manoeuvres. A systematic review.
Supraglottic airways, which are easily inserted and minimize interruptions in cardiopulmonary resuscitation manoeuvres, are now widely used in pre- and in-hospital emergencies. However, most studies in these devices do not specify whether they ensure good ventilation during CPR. This systematic review aims to determine whether there is evidence that supraglotic airways enable effective ventilation during resuscitation. ⋯ There is no scientific evidence that supraglottic airways provide effective ventilation during resuscitation maneuvers. Evaluation by spirometry, chest impedance and ultrasound may help to determine the ventilatory efficacy of supraglottic airways during CPR, and clarify whether this factor contributes to the difficulties experienced in reversing cardiorespiratory arrest.

ReviewDo we have today a reliable method to detect the moment of loss of consciousness during induction of general anaesthesia?
This review aims to give an overview of the current state of monitoring depth of anaesthesia and detecting the moment of loss of consciousness, from the first clinical signs involved in anaesthesia to the latest technologies used in this area. Such techniques are extremely important for the development of automatic systems for anaesthesia control, including preventing intraoperative awareness episodes and overdoses. A search in the databases Pubmed and IEEE Xplore was performed using terms such anaesthetic monitoring, depth of anaesthesia, loss of consciousness, as well as anaesthesia indexes, namely BIS. Despite the several methods capable of monitoring the hypnotic state of anaesthesia, there is still no methodology to accurate detect the moment of loss of consciousness during induction of general anaesthesia.

Systemic lidocaine used in continuous infusion during the peri-operative period has analgesic, anti-hyperalgesic, as well as anti-inflammatory properties. This makes it capable of reducing the use of opioids and inhalational anaesthetics, and the early return of bowel function, and patient hospital stay. The aim of this narrative review was to highlight the pharmacology and indications for clinical application, along with new and interesting research areas. ⋯ Peri-operative lidocaine infusion may be a useful analgesic adjunct in enhanced recovery protocols. Potential benefits of intravenous lidocaine in chronic post-surgical pain, post-operative cognitive dysfunction, and cancer recurrence are under investigation. Due to its immunomodulation properties over surgical stress, current evidence suggests that intravenous lidocaine could be used in the context of multimodal analgesia.
