Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Effects on the newborn infant of thiopental and propofol used in anesthetic induction in cesarean section].
To compare the effects of an anesthetic induction dose of thiopental to that of propofol on the vitality of the neonate, as measured by Apgar score and the interval between extraction of the newborn and unassisted respiration. ⋯ If the induction-extraction interval is 10 min or less, both thiopental (4 mg/kg) and propofol (2 mg/kg) given in a single dose for induction of general anesthesia in all types of cesarean section are equally safe for the newborn infant.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Comparative study of propofol and midazolam for sedation in regional anesthesia].
To compare the efficacy of propofol and midazolam as sedatives in non-premedicated patients receiving regional anesthesia. ⋯ Continuous perfusion of propofol and midazolam for sedation in regional anesthesia are equivalent with respect to efficacy and safety.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Anesthesia recovery, gas exchange and postoperative hepatic and renal function in patients with morbid obesity undergoing bariatric surgery: comparison of the effects of halothane, isoflurane and fentanyl].
To compare the postoperative effects of three anesthetic agents, fentanyl, halothane and isoflurane, on recovery from anesthesia, changes in arterial blood gases, and tests of liver and kidney function in morbidly obese patients recovering from vertical ring gastroplasty. ⋯ Morbidly obese patients undergoing gastroplasty recover from anesthesia in the same way regardless of the agent used. The early postoperative period is characterized by severe hypoxemia and transitory changes in kidney function tests. Neither of these findings is dependent on the agent used.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Treatment of postoperative pain with intravenous PCA system. Comparison with morphine, metamizole, and buprenorphine].
To evaluate the postoperative analgesic efficacy, side effects and acceptance by patients and nurses of intravenous "patient-controlled analgesia" (PCA) with morphine, metamizole and buprenorphine. ⋯ Intravenous postoperative PCA was effective with all three drugs studied. Patient and nurse acceptance was good and side effects were few in the three groups. The lower rate of side effects for metamizole makes it the drug of choice.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial[Cardiorespiratory evaluation of midazolam and thiopental during their use in patients undergoing translumbar aortography in decubitus prone position and ASA IV].
To verify the cardiorespiratory effects of midazolam and thiopental in ASA IV patients undergoing translumbar aortography in the decubitus prone position. ⋯ In patients undergoing translumbar aortography midazolam and thiopental behaved similarly with regard to hemodynamics. Midazolam produced less apnea than thiopental.
