The appearance of the 8-plate as a method for hemiepiphysiodesis has renewed the interest for the use of this technique. However, many questions remain unanswered about the way of action of the guided growth method. Although screw length has been said to play no role, to our knowledge, no clinical or experimental evidence exists. ⋯ The 8-plate has shown to be more efficient in producing angular deformity than staples. However, the length of the screw has showed no role in the 8-plate function.

Distal femur and proximal tibia replacement with megaprosthesis in revision knee arthroplasty: a limb-saving procedure.
The aim of the present study was to assess whether using megaprostheses in revision knee arthroplasty procedures allows limb salvage with an acceptable outcome and complication rate, in comparison with other limb-saving procedures. ⋯ Megaprosthesis implantation in revision knee arthroplasty is an exceptional indication. Despite the high complication rate, the patients can be spared amputation in most cases, and rapid mobilization with full weight-bearing is possible.

Closed-wedge valgus high tibial osteotomy (HTO) has been reported to be an effective procedure for the treatment of medial compartment osteoarthritis of the knee. It requires shortening the fibula, for which many techniques have been described. Dislocation of the proximal tibiofibular joint limits the correction angle of the procedure and the osteotomy of the fibular head runs the rare but dramatic risk of common fibular nerve palsy, which is why many surgeons perform the osteotomy more distally at the shaft. However, the potential complications of fibula shaft osteotomy in closed-wedge proximal tibial osteotomy have been poorly reported. The purpose of this study is to accurately define the incidence and risk of fibular complications. ⋯ Level IV, therapeutic study.

High incidence of tunnel widening after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with transtibial femoral tunnel placement.
This study evaluated the incidence, amount, morphology and clinical significance of bone tunnel widening (TW) at a mean 5-year period after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) with a transtibial drilling technique. ⋯ This study demonstrates that considerable TW occurs in virtually all patients in the mid term after ACLR using a transtibial drilling technique with 'high' femoral tunnel positions. Yet, neither amount nor morphology or tunnel position does affect knee stability or function.
