Implementation of the World Health Organization surgical safety checklist at a university hospital in Thailand.
Compliance with the World Health Organization (WHO) surgical safety checklist may reduce preventable adverse events. However, compliance may be difficult to implement in Thailand. This study was conducted to examine compliance with the WHO checklist at a Thai university hospital. ⋯ The WHO checklist can be implemented in a developing country. However, compliance with some items was extremely low, reflecting different work patterns and cultural norms. Additional education and enforcement of checklist use is needed to improve compliance.

Practice GuidelineAmerican Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine checklist for managing local anesthetic systemic toxicity: 2012 version.
In 2010, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA) issued a practice advisory on local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST). The executive summary of this work contained a document that was intended to serve as a checklist for the management of LAST. Based on testing the checklist during a simulated episode of LAST, ASRA has issued an updated version that should replace the previous 2010 version. Electronic copies of the ASRA Checklist, suitable for lamination and inclusion in a local anesthetic toxicity kit, are available from the ASRA Web site (www.asra.com).

Intrahospital transfers are necessary but hazardous aspects of pediatric surgical care. Plan-Do-Study-Act processes identify risks during hospitalization and improve care systems and patient safety. ⋯ Plan-Do-Study-Act review emphasizes ongoing process analysis by multidisciplinary teams. Checklists reinforce communication and provide feedback on whether system goals are being achieved.

Delirium is a prevalent condition in patients admitted to intensive care units (ICU) associated with worse outcomes. The principal aim of the present study was compare the agreement between two tools for delirium assessment in medical and surgical patients admitted to the ICU. ⋯ The agreement rates between CAM-ICU and ICDSC may vary between different groups of ICU patients and seems to be affected by disease severity.
