Remote Assessment of Real-World Surgical Safety Checklist Performance Using the OR Black Box: A Multi-Institutional Evaluation.
Large-scale evaluation of surgical safety checklist performance has been limited by the need for direct observation. The operating room (OR) Black Box is a multichannel surgical data capture platform that may allow for the holistic evaluation of checklist performance at scale. ⋯ Remote assessment using OR Black Box data provides useful insight into surgical safety checklist performance. Many items included in the time-out and debrief were not routinely discussed. Completion of a team introduction was associated with improved time-out performance. There is potential to use OR Black Box metrics to improve intraoperative process measures.

Multicenter StudyInfluence of residency discipline and seniority on traumatic musculoskeletal radiographs interpretation accuracy: a multicenter study.
Imaging studies are a significant and integral part of the initial assessment of patients admitted to the emergency department. Developing imaging diagnostic abilities early in residency is of paramount importance. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare diagnosis accuracy of common musculoskeletal X-rays (XR) between residency disciplines and seniority. ⋯ Orthopedic residents presented higher diagnosis accuracy of MSK imaging compared to EM and radiology residents. Seniority had a positive effect on diagnosis accuracy. The development of an educational program on MSK XR is necessary to enhance the competency of physicians in their daily practice.

Multicenter StudyChecklist for Early Recognition and Treatment of Acute Illness and Injury: An Exploratory Multicenter International Quality-Improvement Study in the ICUs With Variable Resources.
To determine whether the "Checklist for Early Recognition and Treatment of Acute Illness and Injury" decision support tool during ICU admission and rounding is associated with improvements in nonadherence to evidence-based daily care processes and outcomes in variably resourced ICUs. ⋯ A quality-improvement intervention with remote simulation training to implement a decision support tool was associated with decreased nonadherence to daily care processes, shorter length of stay, and decreased mortality.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Does utilization of an intubation safety checklist reduce omissions during simulated resuscitation scenarios: a multi-center randomized controlled trial.
Checklists have been used to decrease adverse events associated with medical procedures. Simulation provides a safe setting in which to evaluate a new checklist. The objective of this study was to determine if the use of a novel peri-intubation checklist would decrease practitioners' rates of omission of tasks during simulated airway management scenarios. ⋯ In this dual-center, randomized controlled trial, use of an airway checklist in a simulated setting significantly decreased the number of important airway tasks omitted by EM practitioners, but increased time to definitive airway management.

Multicenter StudyImplementation of a specific safety check is associated with lower postoperative mortality in cardiac surgery.
In cardiac surgery, a preincision safety checklist may decrease complications and improve survival. Until now, it has not been demonstrated whether the implementation of such a checklist indeed reduces mortality. ⋯ Application of a short preincision safety checklist in a mixed population of adult cardiac surgery patients is associated with significantly reduced 120-day mortality.
