Evaluation of severe rhabdomyolysis on day 30 mortality in trauma patients admitted to intensive care: a propensity score analysis of the Traumabase registry.
Traumatic rhabdomyolysis (RM) is common and associated with the development of acute kidney injury and potentially with other organ dysfunctions. Thus, RM may increase the risk of death. The primary objective was to assess the effect of severe RM (Creatine Kinase [CK] > 5000 U/L) on 30-day mortality in trauma patients using a causal inference approach. ⋯ Severe RM was not associated with 30-day mortality considering the overall cohort. However, it was associated with a 4.0% increase in 30-day mortality among patients with concurrent hemorrhagic shock. Severe RM plays a significant role in ICU morbidity.

Base excess is superior to creatinine in predicting haemodialysis: A multicenter study conducted Kahramanmaraş earthquake victims.
This study had two main goals: to determine which rhabdomyolysis patients need haemodialysis; and to highlight the significance of blood gas parameters, particularly base excess, as predictors of the need for haemodialysis. ⋯ Base excess is an effective predictor of the need for haemodialysis in patients with crush-related injuries that cause rhabdomyolysis and in patients who develop acute renal failure due to elevated CK.

Referral indications for malignant hyperthermia susceptibility diagnostics in patients without adverse anesthetic events in the era of next-generation sequencing.
The introduction of next-generation sequencing into the diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders has resulted in an increased number of newly identified RYR1 variants. The hypothesis was that there is an increased referral of patients to malignant hyperthermia units without a personal/family history of adverse anesthetic events suspected to be malignant hyperthermia. This retrospective multicenter cohort study evaluates patient referral indications and outcomes for those without a history of an adverse anesthetic event. ⋯ The proportion of patients referred to malignant hyperthermia units without a personal/family history of an adverse anesthetic event has increased, with 39.2% (47 of 120) diagnosed as malignant hyperthermia-susceptible.

Rhabdomyolysis among hospitalized patients for salicylate intoxication in the United States: Nationwide inpatient sample 2003-2014.
This study aimed to assess the risk factors and impact of rhabdomyolysis on treatments, outcomes, and resource utilization in hospitalized patients for salicylate intoxication in the United States. ⋯ Rhabdomyolysis was not common in hospitalized patients for salicylate intoxication but it was associated with increased morbidity, mortality, and resource utilization.

Multicenter StudyThe histopathological spectrum of malignant hyperthermia and rhabdomyolysis due to RYR1 mutations.
The histopathological features of malignant hyperthermia (MH) and non-anaesthetic (mostly exertional) rhabdomyolysis (RM) due to RYR1 mutations have only been reported in a few cases. ⋯ Patients with RYR1-related MH and RM exhibit a similar histopathological spectrum, ranging from mild myopathic changes to cores and other features typical of RYR1-related congenital myopathies. Suggestive histopathological features may support RYR1 involvement, also in cases where the in vitro contracture test is not informative.
