There has been an exponential increase in the use of home noninvasive ventilation (NIV). Despite growing use, there is a paucity of evidence-based guidelines and practice standards in the United States to assist clinicians in the initiation and ongoing management of home NIV. ⋯ This article aims to provide a practice management perspective for clinicians providing home NIV, including Local Coverage Determination reimbursement criteria for respiratory assist devices, Durable Medical Equipment coding, and Current Procedural Terminology coding to optimize clinical care and minimize lost revenue. It highlights the need for further research and development of evidence-based clinical practice standards to ensure best practice policies are in place for this rapidly evolving patient population.

ReviewRehabilitation Interventions for Postintensive Care Syndrome: A Systematic Review.
An increasing number of ICU patients survive and develop mental, cognitive, or physical impairments. Various interventions support recovery from this postintensive care syndrome. Physicians in charge of post-ICU patients need to know which interventions are effective. ⋯ Interventions which have substantial effects in post-ICU patients are rare. Positive effects were seen for ICU-diary interventions for posttraumatic stress disorder. More interventions for the growing number of ICU survivors are needed.

Review[Invasive emergency techniques - decompression of the pleura].
On-scene invasive emergency procedures, such as cricothyroidotomy, chest drain, intraosseous puncture or even on-field-amputation, are often unavoidable, when indicated, and present a major challenge for the emergency physician. Personal, temporal or local conditions are often unsuitable. ⋯ This article presents the use of decompression of the pleura on adults and children, with reference to indication, implementation, problems and risks. It is the second part of a series of four articles on the subject of invasive emergency techniques.

Review Meta AnalysisThe effectiveness of virtual reality interventions in improving balance in adults with impaired balance compared with standard or no treatment: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
To evaluate whether virtual reality interventions, including interactive gaming systems, are effective at improving balance in adults with impaired balance. ⋯ There was a notable inconsistency in the outcome measures, experimental, and control interventions used within the included studies. The pooled results of the studies showed no significant difference. Therefore this review cannot support nor refute the use of virtual reality interventions, rather than conventional physiotherapy, to improve balance in adults with impaired balance.
