Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) caused by a novel coronavirus-2 (CoV-2), also known as COVID-19, has spread rapidly worldwide since it is recognized as a public health emergency and has now been declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020, by the World Health Organization. The genome of SARS-CoV-2 comprises a single-stranded positive-sense RNA approximately 27 to 30 kb in size. The virus is transmitted through droplets from humans to humans. ⋯ Recently, no specific and effective treatment has been recommended for patients infected with the SARS virus. However, several options can be investigated to control SARS-CoV-2 infection, including monoclonal antibodies, interferons, therapeutic vaccines, and molecular-based targeted drugs. In the current review, we focus on tyrosine kinase inhibitor management and their protective role in SARS-CoV-2 patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia.

No increased injury incidence in the German Bundesliga after the SARS-CoV-2 virus lockdown.
The coronavirus lockdown in 2020 resulted in a worldwide suspension of professional sports. The first major professional football league to restart after the lockdown was the German Bundesliga. This study investigates whether the injury incidence increased after the restart of the season with only 9 days of regular preparation time and without any friendly matches in comparison to three control periods. ⋯ The period after the unexpected break in the 2019-2020 season due to the coronavirus lockdown and the rapid return to competition showed no increase in the injury rate compared to the pre-lockdown period and a lower injury rate than in the previous season final. The unintentional mid-season rest with its potential for physical recovery and individual fitness training seems to have had a positive effect on injury occurrence.

The Karolinska NeuroCOVID study protocol: neurocognitive impairment, biomarkers and advanced imaging in critical care survivors.
This is the study plan of the Karolinska NeuroCOVID study, a study of neurocognitive impairment after severe COVID-19, relating post-intensive care unit (ICU) cognitive and neurological deficits to biofluid markers and MRI. The COVID-19 pandemic has posed enormous health challenges to individuals and health-care systems worldwide. An emerging feature of severe COVID-19 is that of temporary and extended neurocognitive impairment, exhibiting a myriad of symptoms and signs. The causes of this symptomatology have not yet been fully elucidated. ⋯ The study goal is to gain a better understanding of the pathological mechanisms and neurological consequences of this new disease, with a special emphasis on neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory processes, in order to identify targets of intervention and rehabilitation.

Although teleophthalmology has gained traction in recent years, it is at the center of the coronavirus disease pandemic. However, most hospitals are not ready owing to a severe lack of real-world experience. Furthermore, a limited number of studies have evaluated telemedicine applications on remote islands. This study aimed to evaluate real-world clinical and referral accuracy, image quality, physician-perceived diagnostic certainty, and patient satisfaction with telemedicine eye screening using a novel handheld fundus camera in a rural and medically underserved population. ⋯ Novel fundus camera-based telemedicine screening demonstrated high accuracy in detecting clinically significant retinopathy in real-world settings. It achieved high patient satisfaction and physician-perceived certainty in diagnosis with reliable image quality, which may be scaled internationally to overcome geographical barriers under the global pandemic.

Virtual teaching in medical education is rising with the increased need caused by the recent pandemic. However, evaluations of the perception of clinical teachers across professions for setting a virtual class in different teaching scenarios are limited. This study aims to identify cross-professional clinical teachers' perception of virtual classes and the acceptability of the virtual class-specific checklist for setting a virtual class. ⋯ Faculty training for setting virtual classes is essential, and the essential virtual class-specific five steps are suitable for different teachers and teaching scenarios. However, the virtual class-specific checklist should be further adjusted according to the limitations caused by emerging innovative virtual teaching technology.
