Current guidelines do not recommend routine antiviral prophylaxis to prevent hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation in non-liver solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients with resolved HBV infection, even in anti-hepatitis B surface antigen (anti-HBs)-negative recipients and those receiving intense immunosuppression. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine the incidence, risk factors, and clinical outcomes of HBV reactivation in non-liver SOT recipients. ⋯ Non-liver SOT recipients with resolved HBV infection have a high risk of HBV-related hepatic failure and HBV-related death if HBV reactivation occurs. Potential risk factors for HBV reactivation include rituximab use, anti-thymocyte immunoglobulin use, anti-HBs negative status, acute rejection history, and ABO blood type-incompatible transplantation. Further research on monitoring and routine antiviral prophylaxis of non-liver SOT recipients at higher risk of HBV reactivation is required.

Meta AnalysisUsefulness of Analgesia Nociception Index for guiding intraoperative opioid administration: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
This study primarily aimed at investigating the efficacy of Analgesia Nociception Index (ANI) for guiding intraoperative opioid administration in patients receiving surgery under general anesthesia. ⋯ Analgesia nociception index-guided analgesia was unable to reduce intraoperative opioid administration compared to monitoring using conventional clinical parameters. Further studies are required to support our findings.

Low-grade cerebral neoplasms are commonly associated with medically intractable epilepsy. Despite increasing evidence that epileptogenic brain regions commonly extend beyond visible tumor margins, the utility of extended surgical resections leveraging intraoperative electrocorticography (ECoG) remains unclear. ⋯ These findings provide support for the utilization of ECoG-guided surgery to improve postoperative seizure freedom in cases of refractory epilepsy associated with low-grade neoplasms. However, this effect may be attenuated in the presence of concomitant cortical dysplasia, highlighting a need for improved presurgical and intraoperative monitoring for these most challenging cases of localization-related epilepsy.

This meta-analysis aimed to compare the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) on blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension to explore more suitable training. ⋯ HIIT and MICT have similar effects on the overall resting SBP and DBP in patients with hypertension and prehypertension. However, HIIT is better than MICT at reducing SBP during daytime monitoring. In addition, HIIT can improve vasodilation.

Numerous studies have explored whether serum beta 2-microglobulin (β2-MG) can be used as a biomarker for monitoring systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) disease activity, but the results are conflicting. Therefore, we performed a systematic meta-analysis to further investigate the correlation between serum β2-MG level and SLE disease activity. ⋯ This study suggests that patients with SLE have higher serum β2-MG levels than healthy controls and that serum β2-MG levels are positively correlated with SLE disease activity. Thus, serum β2-MG level may be a promising biomarker for monitoring SLE disease activity.
