Randomized Controlled TrialSelective ultrasound-guided nerve root block improves outcomes for discectomy in patients with cervical disc disease: a randomized, controlled, single-blinded study.
We hypothesized that ultrasound-guided selective nerve root block could play a role in the prediction of clinical outcomes in patients with multilevel cervical disease following selective anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. ⋯ In patients with multilevel cervical disease, ultrasound-guided selective nerve root block is an excellent, safe, non-radiating, and reliable test to determine the appropriate level for operation.

Scalp Nerve Block for Enhanced Pain Control and Analgesic Optimization in Elective Craniotomy: A Randomized Controlled Trial with ANI Monitoring.
In patients who are candidates for craniotomy, scalp nerve blocks have been shown to be effective in relieving pain intensity as well as postoperative hemodynamic stability after surgery, but the results have been inconsistent. We aimed to assess the effect of scalp block on pain control, intraoperative drug use under Analgesia Nociception Index (ANI) monitoring, and postoperative pain in patients who were candidates for elective craniotomy. ⋯ Scalp nerve block has an effective role in pain control (increasing ANI), consequently reducing the need for analgesic drugs such as fentanyl and remifentanil following craniotomy without changing the hemodynamic condition.

Erector spinae plane block versus quadratus lumborum block for postoperative analgesia after laparoscopic nephrectomy: A randomized controlled trial.
We compared the analgesic effects of erector spinae plane block versus quadratus lumborum block following laparoscopic nephrectomy. ⋯ Compared with quadratus lumborum block, erector spinae plane block provided better analgesia as manifested by lower opioid consumption and pain intensity for up to 24 h after laparoscopic nephrectomy.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison between low-volume local anesthetic with intravenous dexamethasone and conventional volume without dexamethasone for superior trunk block after arthroscopic shoulder surgery: a randomized controlled non-inferiority trial.
This study aimed to investigate whether low-volume local anesthetic with intravenous dexamethasone can reduce the incidence of diaphragmatic paresis while maintaining the analgesic duration compared with conventional volume of local anesthetic without intravenous dexamethasone when performing ultrasound-guided superior trunk block in patients undergoing arthroscopic shoulder surgery. ⋯ Superior trunk block using low-volume local anesthetic with intravenous dexamethasone can reduce the incidence of diaphragmatic paresis while providing non-inferior analgesic duration compared with the conventional volume of local anesthetic in patients undergoing arthroscopic shoulder surgery.

Randomized Controlled TrialAnterior quadratus lumborum block for analgesia after living-donor renal transplantation: a double-blinded randomized controlled trial.
Limited non-opioid analgesic options are available for managing postoperative pain after renal transplantation. We aimed to investigate whether the unilateral anterior quadratus lumborum (QL) block would reduce postoperative opioid consumption after living-donor renal transplantation in the context of multimodal analgesia. ⋯ The anterior QL block did not reduce opioid consumption in patients receiving multimodal analgesia after living-donor renal transplantation. Our findings do not support the routine administration of the anterior QL block in this surgical population.
