Meta AnalysisUltrasound-guided quadratus lumborum block for postoperative analgesia in renal surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Quadratus lumborum block (QLB) guided by ultrasound is a novel local block anesthesia technique, which can be used in various surgeries for multimodal analgesia. Its analgesic effectiveness for renal surgery is still uncertain. The aim of this meta-analysis was to assess the postoperative analgesic efficacy of QLB in adult patients undergoing renal surgery. ⋯ PROSPERO Registration CRD42021260821.

Efficacy and safety of rhomboid intercostal block for analgesia in breast surgery and thoracoscopic surgery: a meta-analysis.
Rhomboid intercostal block (RIB) is a new regional anesthesia technique that provides postoperative analgesia for breast surgery and thoracoscopic surgery. The published papers are not yet fully integrated and do not adequately address the impact and safety of the RIB on postoperative pain. ⋯ This review shows that RIB was more effective in controlling acute pain after breast surgery and thoracoscopic surgery than general analgesia. And it is a trend that RIB may be a kind of effective and safe nerve bock technology and it requires further studies.

Effectiveness of Peripheral Nerve Blocks for the Treatment of Primary Headache Disorders: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Primary headache disorders are prevalent and account for 2% of all emergency department visits. Current treatment options are effective; however, time to pain relief is suboptimal. Alternatives such as peripheral nerve blocks have shown promising results. The objective of this systematic review is to examine the effectiveness of peripheral nerve blocks for timely pain relief. ⋯ Our review shows peripheral nerve blocks are effective as a rapid treatment option when compared to placebo; however, we were unable to assess effectiveness against standard treatment. Emergency physicians should consider peripheral nerve blocks as an adjunct therapy for patients with primary headache disorders.

Opioid-sparing effects of ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block for adult patients undergoing surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Erector spinae plane block (ESPB) is a new method of administering analgesics to patients perioperatively. The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the opioid-sparing effects of erector spinae plane block in patients during the perioperative period compared to conventional analgesia and identify its role in the development of opioid-free anesthesia. ⋯ Ultrasound-guided ESPB could provide an opioid-sparing effect and effective analgesia in adults undergoing surgeries with general anesthesia, and then promote opioid-free anesthesia development.

Review Meta AnalysisAlpha2 -receptor agonists as adjuvants for brachial plexus nerve blocks - a systematic review with meta-analyses.
We review the efficacy and safety of dexmedetomidine and clonidine as perineural or systemic adjuvants for brachial plexus blocks (BPB). ⋯ Alpha2-receptor agonists used as adjuvants for BPBs lead to a prolonged duration of analgesia, with dexmedetomidine as the most efficient. Alpha2-receptor agonists were associated with increased risk of cardiovascular adverse events. The quality of evidence was low to very low.
