Development of giant cell arteritis after vaccination against SARS-CoV2: A case report and literature review.
Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is an autoimmune vasculitis that affects large and medium-sized blood vessels. The mRNA vaccine against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2) has been associated with the development of immune-mediated diseases. In this article, we present a case of GCA that developed after vaccination against SARS-CoV2. ⋯ We experienced a case of GCA that occurred immediately after vaccination against SARS-CoV2 with an mRNA vaccine. Early signs of GCA include fever, fatigue, and headache, and often resemble those noted after vaccination against SARS-CoV2. The potential presence of GCA should be determined in individuals with persistent fever and headache after vaccination against SARS-CoV2.

Radiological lung sequelae, functional status and symptoms in older patients 3 and 6 months after hospitalization for COVID-19 pneumonia.
The aim of our study was to assess the lung sequelae and clinical consequences 3 and 6 months after hospitalization for COVID-19 pneumonia in older patients. An observational study was conducted on 55 patients aged 65 years and older. Activities of daily living (ADL) and clinical frailty scale (CFS) were assessed at baseline and after 3 months. ⋯ No association emerged between persistent or new-onset symptoms and evidence of fibrotic-like changes. The typical chest CT abnormalities of the COVID-19 pneumonia acute phase resolved in most of our older patients. Mild fibrotic-like changes persisted in less than half of the patients, especially males, without significantly affecting the functional status and frailty condition, which instead were more likely associated with pre-existing comorbidities.

Surgical decision-making after SARS-CoV-2 infection is influenced by the presence of comorbidity, infection severity and whether the surgical problem is time-sensitive. Contemporary surgical policy to delay surgery is informed by highly heterogeneous country-specific guidance. We evaluated surgical provision in England during the COVID-19 pandemic to assess real-world practice and whether deferral remains necessary. ⋯ Compared with the COVIDSurg study cohort, outcomes for patients in the English NHS cohort were better during the COVIDSurg data collection period and the pandemic era before vaccines became available. Clinicians within the English NHS followed national guidance by operating on very few patients within 7 weeks of a positive indication of SARS-CoV-2 infection. In England, surgical patients' overall risk following an indication of SARS-CoV-2 infection is lower than previously thought.
