Review Meta AnalysisThe Impact of Acute Kidney Injury on Chronic Kidney Disease After Cardiac Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
To evaluate the impact of acute kidney injury on transition to chronic kidney disease (CKD) after cardiac surgery and to determine frequency of incident CKD in these patients. ⋯ Acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery was associated with a more than 5-fold increased odds of developing CKD. New-onset CKD occurred in almost 1 in 4 patients in the years after surgery.

Review Meta Analysis Comparative StudySafety evaluation of outpatient vs inpatient unicompartmental knee arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the safety of outpatient and inpatient Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty (UKA) based on the incidence of adverse events. ⋯ In summary, outpatient UKA shows lower incidences of hospital-acquired complications such urinary tract infection, pulmonary embolus, and transfusion. It's worth noting that the incidences of total complications, readmission, and venous thrombosis in outpatient UKA were not higher than the incidences of inpatient UKA, suggestting that outpatient UKA can be considered a safe alternative to inpatient UKA.

Persistent neuropathic pain after brachial plexus avulsion (BPA) is common and generally nonresponsive to medical management. Dorsal root entry zone (DREZ) lesioning is the last resort for pain management in patients with BPA. This study aims to investigate and compare the outcomes and complications of DREZ procedures. ⋯ DREZ lesioning is effective for intractable pain alleviation after BPA. Compared with RF-assisted DREZ lesioning, MDT is associated with better VAS score improvements and a lower rate of postoperative motor weakness.

Dural venous sinus thrombosis after vestibular schwannoma surgery: should we anticoagulate?
The incidence of dural venous sinus thrombosis (DVST) following vestibular schwannoma (VS) surgery remains understudied. The diverse clinical presentation complicates forming anticoagulation treatment guidelines. This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the incidence of DVST post-VS surgery and to evaluate the role of anticoagulation. ⋯ DVST after VS surgery is more common than initially perceived, predominantly presenting asymptomatically. Variability in anticoagulation protocols hinders the establishment of definitive therapeutic stances; nevertheless, there is no supporting evidence to promote anticoagulation administration for DVST. This begs the need for further institutional comparative studies with a proper adjustment for confounding and well-defined anticoagulation regimens.
