Effects of digital learning in anaesthesiology: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Digital methods of instruction have proven to be effective in assisting learning in many fields at various levels. However, none of the meta-analyses have studied the effects of digital learning vs. traditional learning in the field of anaesthesiology. ⋯ The current study demonstrated positive effects of digital instruction in the field of anaesthesiology. Training through digital materials may assist professional training between the stages of didactic training and clinical training.

Meta AnalysisAdverse Outcomes Associated With Intraoperative Anesthesia Handovers: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
Whether intraoperative handover of anesthesia care increases the risk of adverse outcomes in patients undergoing surgery remains unclear. This systematic review aimed to synthesize the evidence on the association of intraoperative anesthesia handover with delivery of patient care and patient outcomes. ⋯ The findings suggested that each additional intraoperative anesthesia handover increased the odds of composite morbidity. It is important to improve the handover quality and avoid handovers when anesthesia providers have high-risk care events, patients having unstable status, or inadequate handover time.

Review Meta AnalysisThe Year in Thoracic Anesthesia: Selected Highlights from 2019.
THIS special article is the 4th in an annual series for the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia. The authors thank the editor-in-chief, Dr. ⋯ The major themes selected for 2019 are outlined in this introduction, and each highlight is reviewed in detail in the main body of the article. The literature highlights in this specialty for 2019 include updates in the preoperative assessment and optimization of patients undergoing lung resection and esophagectomy, updates in one lung ventilation (OLV) and protective ventilation during OLV, a review of recent meta-analyses comparing truncal blocks with paravertebral catheters and the introduction of a new truncal block, meta-analyses comparing nonintubated video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) with those performed using endotracheal intubation, a review of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) recent composite score rating for pulmonary resection of lung cancer, and an update of the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) guidelines for both lung and esophageal surgery.

Meta AnalysisAnaesthetic management during intracranial mechanical thrombectomy: systematic review and meta-analysis of current data.
Our aim was to compare the clinical outcome of patients with ischaemic stroke with anterior large vessel occlusion treated with stent retrievers and/or contact aspiration mechanical thrombectomy (MT) under general anaesthesia (GA) or conscious sedation non-GA through a systematic review and meta-analysis. ⋯ Non-GA during MT for anterior acute ischaemic stroke with current-generation stent retriever/aspiration devices is associated with better 3-month functional outcome and lower mortality rates. These unadjusted estimates are subject to biases and should be interpreted with caution.
