Review Meta AnalysisAwake proning in patients with COVID-19-related hypoxemic acute respiratory failure: Endorsement by the Scandinavian Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine.
Awake proning in spontaneously breathing patients with hypoxemic acute respiratory failure was applied during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic to improve oxygenation while avoiding tracheal intubation. An updated systematic review and meta-analysis on the topic was published. ⋯ The SSAI CPC endorses the clinical practice guideline "Awake proning in patients with COVID-19-related hypoxemic acute respiratory failure: A rapid practice guideline". This guideline serves as a useful decision aid for clinicians caring for critically ill patients with COVID-19-related acute hypoxemic respiratory failure and can be used to provide guidance on use of prone positioning in this group of patients.

Research on opioid-free anesthesia has increased in recent years; however, it has never been determined whether it is more beneficial than opioid anesthesia. This meta-analysis was primarily used to assess the effect of opioid-free anesthesia compared with opioid anesthesia on the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting. ⋯ Opioid-free anesthesia reduces the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting while providing adequate analgesia without interfering with postoperative awakening.

Prevention of cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury: a systematic review and meta-analysis of non-pharmacological interventions.
Cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI) is frequent. While two network meta-analyses assessed the impact of pharmacological interventions to prevent CSA-AKI, none focused on non-pharmacological interventions. We aim to assess the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions to reduce the incidence of CSA-AKI. ⋯ Two non-pharmacological interventions are likely to reduce CSA-AKI incidence, with moderate quality of evidence: goal-directed perfusion and remote ischemic preconditioning.

Impact of female sex on anaesthetic awareness, depth, and emergence: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Suggested anaesthetic dose ranges do not differ by sex, likely because of limited studies comparing sexes. Our objective was to systematically synthesise studies with outcomes of unintended anaesthesia awareness under anaesthesia, intraoperative connected consciousness, time to emergence from anaesthesia, and dosing to achieve adequate depth of anaesthesia, and to compare between females and males. ⋯ PROSPERO CRD42022336087.

Overall anesthesia department quality of clinical supervision of trainees over a year evaluated using mixed effects models.
Earlier studies of supervision in anesthesiology focused on how to evaluate the quality of individual anesthesiologist's clinical supervision of trainees. What is unknown is how to evaluate clinical supervision collectively, as provided by the department's faculty anesthesiologists. This information can be a metric that departments report annually or use to evaluate the effect of programs on the quality of clinical supervision over time. ⋯ Random effects meta-analysis of percentage incidences of maximum scores is a suitable statistical approach to analyze the daily supervision scores of individual anesthesiologists to evaluate the overall quality of clinical supervision provided to the trainees by the department over a year.
