Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyEndoscopic myringoplasty: comparison of double layer cartilage-perichondrium graft and single fascia grafting.
To compare surgical results of endoscopic myringoplasty using double layer cartilage-perichondrium grafts versus single fascia grafts. ⋯ The endoscopic double layer perichondrium-cartilage graft technique is feasible for repairing medium or larger perforations, it has a better long-term graft success rate and less operative time compared with the single layer fascia graft technique. However, long-term hearing outcomes were the same for the single and double layer closure techniques.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of anterior and posterior tympanomeatal flap elevations in endoscopic transcanal tympanoplasty.
Background: There is not an ideal tympanomeatal flap incision type for transcanal procedures. Aims/Objectives: Comparing the outcomes and feasibility of posteriorly and anteriorly based tympanomeatal flap incisions for anterior perforations in endoscopic transcanal cartilage tympanoplasty. Material and methods: Twenty-six patients who had anterior TM perforation were included. ⋯ Mean air bone gap level improvement of (dB HL) at all frequencies was 7.69 ± 2.83 dB HL in group 1 and 7.98 ± 3.08 dB HL in group 2 respectively. Regarding pre-and postoperative mean air bone gap levels and mean surgery times, there was no significant difference between groups (p>.05). Conclusions and significance: For non-complicated anterior perforations that are less than 50% of TM, endoscopic transcanal cartilage tympanoplasty using anterior tympanomeatal flap elevation procedure was seemed minimally invasive and feasible to perform with successful audiologic and postoperative outcomes.

Comparison of the medical costs and effects of large traumatic eardrum perforations treatment.
We investigated the medical costs and effects of ofloxacin drops (OFLX), gelatin sponge patches, spontaneous healing, and endoscopic myringoplasty on healing in large tympanic membrane perforations (TMPs). ⋯ Although the gelatin sponge and myringoplasty treatments significantly shortened the closure time compared with spontaneous healing, the gelatin sponge patch did not significantly improve the closure rate, and the medical cost of myringoplasty was significantly higher than that of the other treatments. In contrast, OFLX significantly shortened closure time and had a higher closure rate than spontaneous healing, and the medical costs were lower than those of the gelatin sponge and myringoplasty procedures.

A comparative study to evaluate the efficacy of EGF, FGF-2, and 0.3% (w/v) ofloxacin drops on eardrum regeneration.
Traumatic tympanic membrane perforations (TMPs) tend to spontaneous healing, however, large TMPs usually fail to healing. Clinical and experimental studies had demonstrated that growth factors accelerated the healing of large TMPs. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of growth factors and 0.3% (w/v) ofloxacin drops n the healing of human large TMPs. ⋯ Epidermal growth factor, FGF-2, and 0.3% (w/v) ofloxacin drops accelerated the closure of large TMPs compared with conservative treatment. Surprisingly, neither the closure rate nor closure time differed significantly among the 3 treated groups. Further experimental studies to demonstrate whether 0.3% (w/v) ofloxacin per se accelerates the healing of TMPs will be interesting in the future.

In children, the success of myringoplastywith temporalis fascia is lower compared to adults and cartilage as an alternative graft material has shown higher success rate. ⋯ In our study of pediatric myringoplasty, the morphological and functional outcomes in both cartilage palisades and temporalis fascia groups were comparable.
