Hip arthroscopy has been shown to offer minimally invasive access to the hip joint compared with standard open arthrotomy. The use of arthroscopy for diagnosing and treating disorders about the hip continues to evolve. This study describes a case that involves arthroscopic removal of a bullet from a low-velocity gunshot wound. ⋯ Arthroscopy allowed adequate inspection of the articular surface, irrigation of the joint, and removal of the foreign body while avoiding an invasive arthrotomy with its associated morbidity and soft tissue disruption. This surgical technique afforded a very satisfactory outcome for this patient and serves as a model for others when encountering a similar injury pattern in a trauma patient. It is a procedure that can be performed safely, quickly, and with minimal complications for surgeons with experience in arthroscopy of the hip joint.

Although oxytocin (OT) and oxytocin receptor (OTR) are known for roles in parturition and milk let-down, they are not hypothalamus-restricted. OT is important in nurturing and opposition to stress. Transcripts encoding OT and OTR have been reported in adult human gut, and OT affects intestinal motility. ⋯ Villus enterocytes were OTR-immunoreactive through postnatal day 17; however, by postnatal day 19, immunoreactivity waned to become restricted to crypts and concentrated at crypt-villus junctions. Immunoelectron microscopy revealed plasmalemmal OTR at enterocyte adherens junctions. We suggest that OT and OTR signaling might be important in ENS development and function and might play roles in visceral sensory perception and neural modulation of epithelial biology.

Endometriosis (EMS) is one of the common diseases in women, which seriously affects the quality of life of women. Leuprorelin acetate can control the development of EMS, but long-term use can cause perimenopausal symptoms in women. Clinical studies have shown that Kuntai capsule combined with leuprorelin acetate is effective in the treatment of EMS, which can relieve perimenopausal symptoms, but it lacks of evidence-based medical evidence. Therefore, this study aims to systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of Kuntai capsule combined with leuprorelin acetate in the treatment of EMS. ⋯ DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/AZU47.

Case report of the patient source of the Babesia microti R1 reference strain and implications for travelers.
In 2002, a previously healthy 69-year-old man travelled to France from the United States and presented to our hospital with a febrile illness that subsequently was determined to be babesiosis. The blood isolated from this patient served as a source for propagation of the Babesia microti R1 strain with subsequent sequencing and annotation of the parasite genome. ⋯ This case provides clinical information about the patient infected with the R1 isolate and a review of travel risk, diagnosis and treatment of babesiosis in endemic and non-endemic areas.

Single nucleotide polymorphisms in the promoter regions of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase (TIMP) genes are associated with an adverse outcome in some cancers. We examined three polymorphisms: -1306C/T and -735C/T in MMP-2 and -418G/C in the TIMP-2 gene, using chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism typing analysis in 575 patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). We examined the possible correlations between the three polymorphisms (MMP-2 (-1306C/T and -735C/T) and TIMP-2 gene (-418G/C)) and the clinical significance and survival rate in patients with NHL. ⋯ Interestingly, patients with the -735CT genotype exhibited a lower rate of survival. Our results demonstrate that certain MMP-2 and TIMP-2 gene polymorphisms potentially effect the progression or assessment of prognosis for NHL. This research warrants further, larger scale studies.
