To assess the relative antidepressant efficacy of escitalopram and comparator antidepressants. ⋯ In this meta-analysis, superior efficacy of escitalopram compared to SSRIs and SNRIs was confirmed, although the superiority over SSRIs was largely explained by differences between escitalopram and citalopram.

Review Meta AnalysisPylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (pp Whipple) versus pancreaticoduodenectomy (classic Whipple) for surgical treatment of periampullary and pancreatic carcinoma.
Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death for men and the fifth for women. The standard treatment for resectable tumours is either a classic Whipple (CW) operation or a pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (PPW). It is unclear which of the procedures is more favourable in terms of survival, mortality, complications and quality of life. ⋯ There is no evidence of relevant differences in mortality, morbidity and survival between the two operations. Given obvious clinical and methodological heterogeneity, future research must be undertaken to perform high-quality randomised controlled trials of complex surgical interventions on the basis of well-defined outcome parameters.

Review Meta Analysis[Evaluation of efficacy of thymosin alpha1 in the treatment of sepsis: a systematic review].
To assess the effects of thymosin alpha1 to enhance immunity and on the prognosis of sepsis. ⋯ The current evidence shows that thymosin alpha1 improves the immuno-suppression and helps recovery of the patient from disease. However not enough evidence is found in decreasing the mortality. Further randomized controlled trials should include the dosage, duration of the treatment and timing of using thymosin alpha1.

Meta AnalysisExposure to diagnostic radiological procedures and the risk of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Diagnostic irradiation of the mother during pregnancy increases the risk of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). There is inconsistent evidence on associations between ALL and other parental or childhood diagnostic irradiation. The aim of this analysis is to investigate whether diagnostic X-rays of the mother before birth, of the father before conception, or of the child increased the risk of childhood ALL. ⋯ We plan to repeat this analysis by using pooled data to improve precision.
