Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical Trial
E5 murine monoclonal antiendotoxin antibody in gram-negative sepsis: a randomized controlled trial. E5 Study Investigators.
Knowledge and understanding of gram-negative sepsis have grown over the past 20 years, but the ability to treat severe sepsis successfully has not. ⋯ Despite adequate sample size and high enrollment of patients with confirmed gram-negative sepsis, E5 did not improve short-term survival. Current study rationale and designs should be carefully reviewed before further large-scale studies of patients with sepsis are conducted.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyImmunogenicity and Safety of a Trivalent Inactivated Influenza Vaccine in Children 6 Months to 17 Years of Age, Previously Vaccinated with an AS03-Adjuvanted A(H1N1)Pdm09 Vaccine: Two Open-label, Randomized Trials.
During the influenza pandemic 2009-2010, an AS03-adjuvanted A(H1N1)pdm09 vaccine was used extensively in children 6 months of age and older, and during the 2010-2011 influenza season, the A(H1N1)pdm09 strain was included in the seasonal trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (TIV) without adjuvant. We evaluated the immunogenicity and safety of TIV in children previously vaccinated with the AS03-adjuvanted A(H1N1)pdm09 vaccine. ⋯ AS03-adjuvanted A(H1N1)pdm09 vaccine-induced robust immune responses in children that persisted into the next season, yet were still boosted by TIV containing A(H1N1)pdm09. The reactogenicity and safety profile of TIV did not appear compromised by prior receipt of AS03-adjuvanted A(H1N1)pdm09 vaccine.

Multicenter Study Clinical TrialAllogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) in Hurler's syndrome using a reduced intensity preparative regimen.
Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) in patients with Hurler's syndrome can improve survival and ameliorate many aspects of Hurler's syndrome including neurologic decline and cardiac compromise. Unfortunately, the toxicity of traditional preparative regimens to organs affected by the syndrome may have deleterious effects. Additionally, despite the intensity of these regimens, achieving stable donor chimerism can be difficult. ⋯ There was no severe acute GVHD (no GI GVHD of grade II or more, no grade IV skin GVHD). Six of the seven children are surviving at a median of 1014 (726-2222) days post transplant. This reduced intensity preparative regimen has the potential to support engraftment and improve survival and outcome in patients with Hurler's syndrome undergoing HCT.

Patterns of acute whiplash-associated disorder in the Lithuanian population after road traffic accidents.
To investigate acute whiplash-associated disorder in the Lithuanian population who are unaware of the phenomenon. ⋯ Road traffic accidents induce whiplash-associated disorder in patients who seek help, but who are unaware of the condition whiplash-associated disorder. Whiplash-associated disorder should be considered and treated as an entity per se.
