Review[Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation for patients with out-of-hospital refractory cardiac arrest].
Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is associated with high mortality and morbidity. Treatment options remain few in refractory cases, but extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (eCPR) is increasingly applied to improve the outcome. This article summarizes the use, experience and outcome of eCPR focussing on current knowledge of criteria for selection of relevant patients for treatment.

Review[Inhibition of the Janus kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription is a new treatment modality of rheumatoid arthritis].
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory joint disease. The introduction of a new class of disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs, which work by inhibiting the Janus kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) pathway, has led to new possibilities for achieving remission of RA. ⋯ The side effects seem manageable, and up to now only increased risk of herpes zoster has raised consideration. JAK/STAT inhibitors create new possibilities for reaching low disease activity or remission for patients with RA.

The Danish parliament has decided to establish a four-year pilot scheme for medical treatment with cannabis. We increasingly experience requests from parents for medical treatment with cannabis of children and have the impression that a growing number of parents treat their children with illegally acquired cannabis products for various conditions. We summarize the sparse evidence regarding effects, side effects and long-term effects of medical treatment with cannabis in children and adolescents. At present, cannabis should very rarely be considered as part of medical treatment for children and adolescents.

Airplane headache is a common problem with 100 million passengers annually suffering from the condition. It has been suggested that the changes in the cabin pressure during take-off and landing may cause inflammation in sinus tissues. This can lead to elevated levels of prostaglandin E2 and vasodilation of cerebral arteries resulting in airplane headache. Current evidence suggests opportunities to develop a treatment plan by examining future potential drugs for reducing the prostaglandin E2 level or preventing the vasodilation of the cerebral arteries.

Review[Administration of norepinephrine in peripheral venous catheter on surgical patients].
Hypotension is a common event during surgery and can cause serious post-operative complication, but vasoactive drugs can stabilize the cardiovascular system and reduce the risk of post-operative complications. Norepinephrine is an ideal vasopressor. Due to the risk of extravasation and ischaemic tissue damage norepinephrine is often administered via a central venous catheter. Administration of norepinephrine via a peripheral venous catheter may be a safe alternative during surgery, if the drug is administered correctly.
