Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEffects of pain treatment on sleep in nursing home patients with dementia and depression: A multicenter placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial.
To investigate the effects of pain treatment on sleep in nursing home (NH) patients with dementia and depression. ⋯ Compared with placebo, pain treatment improved sleep as measured with actigraphy. This implies that sleep, pain, and depression in NH patients should be critically evaluated and that pain treatment should be considered to be a potentially beneficial treatment.

Randomized Controlled TrialRivastigmine patch reduces the incidence of postoperative delirium in older patients with cognitive impairment.
To date, data regarding the efficacy of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors in preventing postoperative delirium (POD) are inconsistent and conflicting. Older individuals with cognitive dysfunction are thought to show POD more frequently. Our aim was to study the effectiveness of rivastigmine prophylaxis on the incidence, severity, and risk factors for POD in older patients with cognitive impairment undergoing hip fracture surgery. ⋯ Perioperative rivastigmine patch application could reduce the occurrence of POD in older patients with low cognitive status. Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyMemantine improves attention and episodic memory in Parkinson's disease dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies.
In both dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) and Parkinson's disease dementia (PDD), attentional dysfunction is a core clinical feature together with disrupted episodic memory. This study evaluated the cognitive effects of memantine in DLB and PDD using automated tests of attention and episodic memory. ⋯ These are the first substantial improvements on cognitive tests of attention and episodic recognition memory identified with memantine in either DLB or PDD.

Randomized Controlled TrialEfficacy and safety of duloxetine in the treatment of older adult patients with generalized anxiety disorder: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
This was a flexible-dosed study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of duloxetine 30-120 mg once daily in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in older adult patients. ⋯ Duloxetine treatment was efficacious in the improvement of anxiety and functioning in older adult patients with GAD, and the safety profile was consistent with previous GAD studies.
