Reports on the association between coffee or tea consumption and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) risk are inconsistent. The aim of this study was to determine if an association exists between consumption of coffee or tea and the risk for SAH. ⋯ Our meta-analysis of current evidence does not support an association between the consumption of coffee or tea and SAH risk. Further studies with prospective designs that control for important confounders and provide sufficient data for dose-response analysis are warranted.

The healthy Nordic dietary pattern has no effect on inflammatory markers: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled clinical trials.
The Nordic diet (ND) is regarded as a healthy dietary pattern that might beneficially affect systemic chronic inflammation; however, the results of published studies are conflicting. The present systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to summarize the published evidence by randomized controlled clinical trials with regard to the effect of the ND pattern on circulating inflammatory markers such as C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α). ⋯ Adherence to the ND pattern does not seem to affect circulating CRP, IL-6, and TNF-α levels. Clinical trials with longer follow-up periods and including participants in other regions are highly recommended.

Vitamin D deficiency as a risk factor for thyroid cancer: A meta-analysis of case-control studies.
The association between vitamin D deficiency and thyroid cancer is controversial. Some studies have demonstrated that higher serum vitamin D levels might protect against thyroid cancer, whereas others have not, or have even indicated the opposite to be the case. The aim of this meta-analysis was to investigate the association between vitamin D deficicency and thyroid cancer and propose that vitamin D deficiency is a risk factor for thyroid cancer. ⋯ Lower serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels were associated with increased risk for thyroid cancer. On the other hand, vitamin D deficiency may act as a risk factor for thyroid cancer.

Associations between dietary inflammatory index and incidence of breast and prostate cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Dietary inflammatory index (DII) scores have been inconsistently linked to cancer risks. Therefore, a systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to examine the associations between the DII and the risks of breast and prostate cancer among men and women. ⋯ Men and premenopausal women who exhibit higher DII scores have increased prostate and breast cancer incidence risks, respectively. Moreover, body mass index had positive associations with the relationship between DII score and BCR in women. Further prospective cohort studies with longer follow-up periods are needed to support this possible association between DII score and cancer incidence.

Effects of nut consumption on selected inflammatory markers: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Several randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have assessed the effects of nut consumption on inflammatory markers. However, the results have been inconsistent. The aim of this meta-analysis of RCTs was to quantitatively evaluate the effects of nut consumption on selected inflammatory markers. ⋯ Nut consumption significantly reduced ICAM-1 levels, but had no effect on other inflammatory markers. More studies are needed to assess the effects of nuts on inflammation.
