Low iron stores in preconception nulliparous women; a two-center cross-sectional study in peri-urban Ghana.
The nutritional status of women affects pregnancy outcomes. Preconception care adequately prepares women for the demands of pregnancy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prepregnancy iron status of nulliparous women in Ghana to provide empirical data to inform policy formulation. ⋯ The high prevalence of depleted iron stores in nulliparous women is a severe public health problem that requires attention.

Comparison of three nutritional screening tools for predicting mortality in maintenance hemodialysis patients.
The aim of this study was to compare the effect of different nutritional screening tools on predicting the risk for mortality in patients on maintenance hemodialysis (MHD). ⋯ Each of the three nutritional screening tools was significantly associated with an increased risk for all-cause and CV mortality. The mortality predictability of the MIS was similar to the GNRI and greater than the OSND.

Non-interventional, retrospective data of long-term home parenteral nutrition in patients with benign diseases: Analysis of a nurse register (SERECARE).
The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of home parenteral nutrition (HPN) service in patients with benign chronic intestinal failure (CIF). ⋯ The use of a structured register has proved to be a key strategy for monitoring the outcomes of long-term treatment, improving time efficiency, and preventing potential malpractice. To our knowledge, this is the largest survey ever documented; the results were consistent despite the heterogeneity of the centers because of duly applied standard rules and protocols.

Time to treatment response of a magnesium- and sulphate-rich natural mineral water in functional constipation.
First-line recommendations for the management of functional constipation include nutritional-hygienic measures. We previously showed that a natural mineral water rich in sulphates and magnesium (Hépar) is efficient in the treatment of functional constipation. The aim of this study was to consolidate those first results and determine a precise time to respond to Hépar. ⋯ This study confirms the efficacy and safety of Hépar in the treatment of functional constipation and shows that it is associated with a response within 7 d. Hépar could be a safe response to the current absence of first-line medication in the treatment of functional constipation.

Effect of adherence to Mediterranean diet on first ST-elevation myocardial infarction: Insights from multiethnic case-control study.
This study aimed to assess the protective role of dietary habits and Mediterranean diet adherence in first acute myocardial infarction in patients enrolled in the multicenter and multiethnic FAMI (First Acute Myocardial Infarction) study. ⋯ The study found a protective effect of the Mediterranean diet and high fruit and vegetable consumption on the risk of first STEMI, regardless of traditional cardiovascular risk factors in the European population.
