Association between diet quality index and cardiometabolic risk factors in adolescents: Study of Cardiovascular Risks in Adolescents (ERICA).
This study evaluated the association between diet quality, assessed by the Diet Quality Index for Adolescents adapted for Brazilians (DQIA-BR), and cardiometabolic markers in adolescents. ⋯ The effects of diet quality on cardiometabolic risk factors differ according to sex and the presence of overweight/obesity. Overall, DQIA-BR is a suitable tool to evaluate the association between diet quality and cardiometabolic markers in normal-weight adolescents, but not for adolescents, especially girls, with overweight/obesity.

Dietary total antioxidant capacity is inversely associated with cardiovascular events and cardiometabolic risk factors: A cross-sectional study.
Dietary total antioxidant capacity (dTAC) has been introduced as a useful tool to quantify the antioxidant content of a diet. However, few studies have evaluated the association of dTAC with cardiovascular disease (CVD) occurrence and cardiometabolic risk factors in people with established CVD events. Thus, we aimed to investigate the presence of an association between dTAC values, cardiovascular events, and cardiometabolic risk factors in individuals with previous CVD in a Brazilian multicenter study. ⋯ The dTAC was inversely associated with hypertriglyceridemic waist phenotype, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and amputation due to arterial disease in individuals undergoing secondary care for CVD. Our results can guide strategies for the prevention of new CVD and its consequences.

Different muscle mass indices of the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition in diagnosing malnutrition and predicting survival of patients with gastric cancer.
Malnutrition is common and related to negative prognosis in patients with gastric cancer (GC). The Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM), a novel consensus for the diagnosis of malnutrition, was proposed recently. However, the roles of GLIM in diagnosing malnutrition and predicting overall survival (OS) in patients with GC have been unclear. ⋯ Our findings support the effectiveness of GLIM in diagnosing malnutrition and predicting OS in patients with GC.

Organizational issues of home parenteral nutrition during COVID-19 pandemic: Results from multicenter, nationwide study.
Patients on home parenteral nutrition (HPN) are prone to severe complications of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. The pandemic requires adaptation of the health care standards, including epidemiologic surveillance, logistics of home supply, and monitoring. Potential lack of medical professionals may worsen the standard of care. The aim of this study was to evaluate the medical staff resources in HPN units. ⋯ A shortage of HPN medical professionals requires attention when planning health care organization, especially during a pandemic. Severe restrictions in public health systems may not reduce the number of new qualifications for the HPN procedure. There is a need for the continuation of data collection during the evolution of the pandemic as it may have a detrimental effect on HPN including serious issues with access to professional HCWs.

Nutritional status and nutrition support in critically ill children in Spain: Results of a multicentric study.
Critically ill children are often malnourished and require nutrition support (NS). Early enteral nutrition (EEN) seems to be safe in critically ill patients. However, there is a scarcity of data about the management of EEN in sick pediatric patients. The aim of this study was to analyze the nutritional status, NS characteristics, macronutrient supply, and associations between NS and outcomes in critically ill children in Spain. ⋯ Malnutrition was prevalent among critically ill children in Spain. Being overweight was associated with a shorter PICU LOS. EEN was safe and was associated with a higher caloric intake; however, it is rarely used in PICUs in Spain.
