Randomized Controlled TrialComparison of Efficacy of Teriparatide (Parathyroid Hormone 1-34) Alone and in Combination with Zoledronic Acid for Osteoporosis in Postmenopausal Women.
The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of teriparatide (parathyroid hormone 1-34) alone and in combination with zoledronic acid (ZA) for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Ninety-six patients were randomly equally divided into Groups A (n=48) and B (n=48). Group A was given parathyroid hormone 1-34 alone. ⋯ After 6 months of treatment, VAS score, serum OPN and S-CTX levels in Group B were significantly lower than those in Group A (p=0.001, p<0.001 and p<0.001, respectively); and BMD values of lumbar vertebrae L2-4, femoral neck and total hip bone in Group B were higher than those of Group A (p=0.002, p=0.028 and p<0.001, respectively). In conclusion, parathyroid hormone 1-34 plus ZA is more effective than parathyroid hormone 1-34 alone in treating post postmenopausal osteoporosis. Key Words: Teriparatide (parathyroid hormone 1-34, Zoledronic acid (ZA), Postmenopausal, Osteoporosis, Bone mineral density (BMD).

Randomized Controlled Trial Observational StudyImpact of Intraoperative Dexmedetomidine versus Remifentanil on Recovery Characteristics following Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy.
To evaluate the impact of intraoperative dexmedetomidine versus remifentanil on postoperative pain; and enhanced recovery profile in patients scheduled for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). ⋯ Better enhanced recovery profile after LSG supports the use of intraoperative infusion of dexmedetomidine as an anaesthetic adjuvant versus remifentanil. Key Words: Dexmedetomidine, Remifentanil, Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS); Bariatric surgery.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of Point-of-care Ultrasonography on the Diagnostic Process of Patients Admitted to the Emergency Department with Chest Pain: A Randomised Controlled Trial.
To evaluate the effect of point of care ultrasonography (POCUS) performed for heart, lung, aorta, hepatobiliary and deep veins on the diagnosis, length of stay (LOS) in emergency department (ED) and cost in patients admitted to the ED with chest pain. ⋯ POCUS is a repeatable, practical imaging method which does not require radiation, reduces LOS in the ED statistically significant. However, further studies are needed to determine its usefulness in the ED. Key Words: Chest pain, Cost, Emergency medicine, Length of stay, Point of care ultrasound.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffectiveness of Teaching with Visualisation Table in Comparison to Traditional Lecture in Anatomy Department, Jinnah Sindh Medical University.
To determine the effectiveness of Sectra visualisation table (SVT) in a public sector setup and to compare the traditional (TRAD) lecture with SVT-aided teaching in terms of learning outcomes and students' perception regarding SVT. ⋯ SVT cannot totally replace traditional lecture, although it is a promising tool which can be introduced in the curriculum to enrich the learning experience of students. Key Words: Traditional method, Sectra visualisation table, MCQs test, Feedback, Learning style.

Randomized Controlled TrialNeurectomy versus Nerve Sparing in Open Inguinal Hernia Repair: A Randomised Controlled Trial.
To determine the effect of neurectomy in reducing the frequency of chronic inguinodynia after mesh hernioplasty in open inguinal hernia repair. ⋯ Excision of ilioinguinal and iliohypogastric nerve in inguinal mesh hernioplasty reduces the frequency of chronic inguinodynia. Ilioinguinal neurectomy may be practised routinely in patients undergoing Lichtenstein mesh hernioplasty. Key Words: Inguinal neurectomy, Inguinal hernia, Chronic inguinodynia, Lichtenstein mesh hernioplasty.
