Mean platelet volume as a predictor in the differentiation of Behçet's disease from recurrent aphthous stomatitis - a single center, prospective, case-control study.
Recurrent oral ulcers (ROUs) are the most common disorder of the oral cavity in the community. The most challenging issue for the clinician to deal with in the diagnosis is to distinguish whether ROUs are associated with primarily Behçet's disease (BD). We aimed to investigate whether hemogram parameters contribute to reinforce BD suspicion in the differential diagnosis of recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) and BD. ⋯ Decreased MPV may be predictive for BD in selected patients with ROUs. We consider that more attention is required in terms of BD especially if MPV ≤10.0 fL.

Thiol levels in mild or moderate COVID-19 patients: A comparison of variant and classic COVID-19 cases.
Various variants of the COVID-19 have started to attract attention recently. The clinical course of these variants and possible predictive parameters are being investigated. This study aimed to examine the relationship between thiol levels, which are indicators of oxidative stress, and variant COVID-19 types. ⋯ It seems possible to use thiol as a sensitive, specific and cost-effective marker to suspect variant COVID-19 cases. Since this study is probably the first example in this subject, it would form a basis for further studies.

Genotyping, Drug Resistance and Virulence Factors of Candida Species Isolated from Patients Using Long-Term Inhaled Steroids.
In this study, it was aimed to determine the isolation frequency and species distribution of Candida species isolated from asthmatic patients using long-term inhaled steroids. It was also aimed to determine the drug resistance patterns and the frequency of erg11, HWP1, ALS1, INT1, SAP1 PLB1 genes in isolates. ⋯ In asthma patients using long-term inhaled steroids, both Isolation rates of Candida species, drug resistance rates, presence of virulence genes were found to be significantly higher in patients than in the control group. We think that this may be due to the suppression of cellular immunity by long-term steroid use.

Characteristics of Hospitalized COVID-19 Patients and Parameters Associated with Severe Pneumonia.
After the first case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was reported in China in December 2019, it caused a global pandemic, including Turkey. ⋯ This study, as one of the first multicentre studies about characteristics of COVID-19 in Turkey, may guide about disease-related parameters and severity of pneumonia. Age, blood pressure, complete blood count and routine biochemical tests (including CRP and LDH) would appear to be important parameters for the evaluation of the severity of COVID-19 pneumonia.

Accuracy and Safety of Dry Needling Placement in the Popliteus Muscle: A Cadaveric Study.
The popliteus muscle attaches posteriorly to the joint capsule of the knee. Although it is an important rotational stabiliser and has been implicated in various knee pathologies, research on its treatment with dry needling is scarce. ⋯ The results from this cadaveric study support the notion that needling of the popliteus can be accurately and safely conducted by an experienced clinician. Future studies investigating the clinical effectiveness of these interventions are needed.
