Adherence towards COVID-19 prevention measures and associated factors in Hossana town, South Ethiopia, 2021.
The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) disease is a pandemic threat for humanity's healthcare system, social, economic, and psychological well-being for both developed and developing nations. In the case of developing nations such as the resource of Ethiopia, however, the key obstacle is to buy the vaccine and administer it to their people. In the study area, however, the degree of adherence to the COVID-19 preventive measure was not well-established. The aim of this study is to determine adherence to COVID-19 prevention measures in Hossana town. ⋯ This study found that approximately half of the participants had poor adherence to COVID-19 preventive measures. Factors associated with COVID-19 preventive measures were age, educational status, marital status, family size, and heard about complication of COVID-19 were associated with preventive measures.

Anosmia and dysgeusia among COVID-19 patients are associated with low levels of serum Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1).
Anosmia and dysgeusia (AD) are common amongst COVID-19 patients. These symptoms are not frequently associated with rhinorrhea or nasal congestion and the underlying mechanism is unclear. Previous reports suggested that glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) signalling plays a role in the modulation of olfaction and ageusia. We aimed to assess the correlation between GLP-1 and COVID-19-associated AD. ⋯ COVID-19 patients who reported AD had lower serum levels of GLP-1 compared with those lacking AD symptoms and COVID-19-negative individuals. These results suggest that GLP-1 may be involved in the pathogenesis of AD. However, further larger scale studies should corroborate our findings.

Evaluation of the effectiveness of the Nutritional Risk Screening System 2002 (NRS-2002) in COVID-19 patients admitted to the intensive care unit.
Nutritional status of patients with COVID-19 can affect the recovery process of patients; however, no nutritional scale was introduced to evaluate the nutritional status of the patients. Thus, the main objective of this study was to examine the usefulness of Nutritional status-2002 (NRS-2002) among COVID-19 patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). ⋯ Results showed patients with COVID-19 admitted to the ICU did not have appropriate nutritional status and mortality was higher among patients with lower amounts of the serum albumin and daily calorie intakes. Furthermore, there is a strong association between the NRS-2002 index and the chance of mortality in these patients.

The assessment of Tp-e interval and Tp-e/QT ratio in patients with hyperthyroidism before and after thyroid surgery.
Ventricular repolarisation is assessed using the Tp-e interval and QT interval corrected by the heart rate (QTc) via an electrocardiogram (ECG). Prolonged Tp-e/QTc is related with an increased risk of arrhythmias and cardiac mortality. ⋯ Our study demonstrated that Tp-e interval, Tp-e/QT and Tp-e/QTc ratios were shortened in patients with hyperthyroidism after thyroid surgery than before procedure. This study is considerable to display that hyperthyroidism may have a negative effect on cardiac conduction system, which potentially may induce formation of ventricular arrhythmias.

Low dose tocilizumab is associated with improved outcome and a low risk of secondary infection in severe COVID-19 pneumonia.
Respiratory failure and death are the leading causes of severe Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Hyper-inflammation and cytokine storm cause lung damage. This study aimed to compare the low-dose and high-dose effects of tocilizumab, an IL-6 receptor antagonist. ⋯ The use of tocilizumab at a low dose is associated with lower secondary infections and mortality.
