Multicenter StudyAssessing the Reliability of the Bleeding Assessment Scale in Critically Ill Children (BASIC) Definition: A Prospective Cohort Study.
To determine the reliability of the Bleeding Assessment Scale in critically Ill Children (BASIC) definition of bleeding severity in a diverse cohort of critically ill children. ⋯ The BASIC definition is a reliable tool for identifying and classifying bleeding in critically ill children. Implementing this definition into clinical and research practice may provide a consistent and reliable evaluation of bleeding.

A [18F]FDG PET based nomogram to predict cancer-associated cachexia and survival outcome: A multi-center study.
Cancer patients with cachexia face poor prognosis and shortened survival. Early diagnosis and accurate prognosis prediction remain challenging. This multi-center study aims to develop and externally validate a nomogram integrating [18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose ([18F]FDG) PET findings and routine clinical biochemistry tests for predicting cancer-associated cachexia, while also assessing its potential prognostic value. ⋯ Combining radiological information from clinical standard [18F]FDG PET data from cancer patients with biochemical results in their routine clinical blood tests through a well-constructed nomogram enables predicting cachexia and its effect on the prognosis of cancer patients.

A Low-Intensity Transcranial Focused Ultrasound Parameter Exploration Study of the Ventral Capsule/Ventral Striatum.
Deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the ventral capsule/ventral striatum (VC/VS) is effective for treatment-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD); however, DBS is associated with neurosurgical risks. Transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS) is a newer form of noninvasive (ie, nonsurgical) stimulation that can modulate deeper regions, such as the VC/VS. tFUS parameters have just begun to be studied and have often not been compared in the same participants. We explored the effects of three VC/VS tFUS protocols and an entorhinal cortex (ErC) tFUS session on the VC/VS and cortico-striato-thalamo-cortical circuit (CSTC) in healthy individuals for later application to patients with OCD. ⋯ This study began to explore the multidimensional parameter space of an emerging form of noninvasive brain stimulation, tFUS. Our preliminary findings in a small sample suggest that VC/VS tFUS should continue to be investigated for future noninvasive treatment of OCD.

Patient-reported outcomes, postoperative pain and pain relief after day case surgery (POPPY): methodology for a prospective, multicentre observational study.
In the UK, approximately 70% of surgical procedures are undertaken as day-cases. Little information exists about recovery from day-case surgery, yet international data highlights patients are at risk of developing significant longer-term health problems including chronic post-surgical pain and persistent postoperative opioid use. The Patient-reported Outcomes, Postoperative Pain and pain relief after daY case surgery (POPPY) study was a national prospective multicentre observational study, measuring short- and longer-term patient-reported outcomes, postoperative pain and pain relief after day-case surgery. ⋯ This paper outlines the methods for the POPPY study, the largest UK multicentre prospective observational study considering short- and longer-term outcomes following day-case surgery.
