A checklist manifesto: Can a checklist of common diagnoses improve accuracy in ECG interpretation?
To determine whether a checklist of possible etiologies for syncope provided alongside ECGs helps Emergency Medicine (EM) residents identify ECG patterns more accurately than with ECGs alone. ⋯ Using a checklist with common syncope-related pathology when interpreting an ECG for a patient with clinical scenario of syncope may improve residents' ability to recognize some clinically important pathologies; however it could lead to increased interpretation and suspicion of pathology that is not present.

Critically ill patients are often transferred from the intensive care unit (ICU) to other locations around the hospital during which adverse events, some life threatening, are common. An intercollegiate guideline covering the transport of critically ill patients exists in Australasia; however, compliance with this guideline has previously been shown to be poor, and its role in improving safety in transportation of patients in the ICU is unknown. We performed a pre-post interventional study in a tertiary metropolitan ICU, assessing the impact of the introduction of a transport checklist on guideline compliance. ⋯ We conclude that a checklist is useful in improving safety in the transport of a critically ill patient population.

Using the Modified Delphi Method to Develop a Tool to Assess Pediatric Residents Supervising on Inpatient Rounds.
Consensus about behaviors that define effective supervision by residents of more junior trainees on pediatric inpatient rounds is lacking. ⋯ Based on literature review, local stakeholder input, and consensus of national experts through the modified Delphi method, we created and piloted a checklist of observable behaviors characteristic of effective clinical supervision by pediatric residents leading trainee teams on inpatient, non-ICU, nonspecialty rounds.

The Surgical Safety Checklist (SSC) is a patient safety tool shown to reduce mortality and to improve teamwork and adherence with perioperative safety practices. The results of the original pilot work were published 10 years ago. This study aimed to determine the contemporary prevalence and predictors of SSC use globally. ⋯ Worldwide, SSC use is generally high, but significant variability exists. Implementation and dissemination strategies must be developed to address this variability.
