Objective : Disabled-2 (Dab2) is an important endocytic adaptor which plays an inhibition role in cancer cell growth. The objective of this study was to systematically review expressions of Dab2 in human cancers. Methods : Eligible studies about Dab2 in human cancers were retrieved from databases of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science. ⋯ The results indicated loss expressions of Dab2 were observed in 74.9% and 46.9% in human malignant cancer tissues and cancer cell lines, respectively. The ratio of Dab2 promotor hypermethylation is 34.54% in cancer tissues which Dab2 expression are lost, but none in the control tissues or cells by Methylation-specific PCR (MSP). Conclusions : The expressions of Dab2 are frequently lost in human malignant cancer tissues, and promotor hypermethylation of Dab2 are common in human malignant cancer tissues, which is an important factor for the loss expression of Dab2 in human cancers tissues.

Asthma PostersSESSION TYPE: Poster PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMPURPOSE: Galectins are a family of b-galactoside-binding animal lectins with functions in a variety of biological processes, including inflammation and allergic pathologies. To explore the contribution of galectins in human asthma, induced sputum samples were collected from asthma patients and healthy controls. Expression of galectin (gal)-1, gal-3 and gal-9 was analysed by flow cytometry. ⋯ The following authors have nothing to disclose: Silvia Sanchez, Rosa Girón Moreno, Rosa Gomez Punter, Emma Vazquez, Gonzalo Segrelles, Carolina Cisneros, Julio Ancochea BermúdezNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.

Glyphosate-surfactant herbicide is promoted by the manufacturer as having no risks to human health. Glyphosate surfactant has recently been used with increasing frequency in suicide attempts, so clinical toxicologists occasionally encounter cases of severe systemic toxicity. The purpose of this study was to identify the early predictive factors of patients at risk for mortality and the usefulness of the corrected QT interval (QTc interval) for predicting mortality from glyphosate-surfactant intoxication. ⋯ Prolonged QTc interval seems to be a useful prognostic factor for mortality in patients intoxicated with glyphosate-surfactant herbicide.

Epidural stimulation (ES) of the lumbosacral spinal cord has been used to facilitate standing and voluntary movement after clinically motor-complete spinal-cord injury. It seems of importance to examine how the epidurally evoked potentials are modulated in the spinal circuitry and projected to various motor pools. We hypothesized that chronically implanted electrode arrays over the lumbosacral spinal cord can be used to assess functionally spinal circuitry linked to specific motor pools. ⋯ Epidural electrical stimulation of rostral and caudal areas of lumbar spinal cord resulted in a selective topographical recruitment of proximal and distal leg muscles, as revealed by both magnitude and thresholds of the evoked potentials. ES activated both afferent and efferent pathways. The components of neural pathways that can mediate motor-evoked potentials were highly dependent on the stimulation parameters and sensory conditions, suggesting a weight-bearing-induced reorganization of the spinal circuitries.

FTY720 (S)-Phosphonate Preserves Sphingosine 1-Phosphate Receptor 1 Expression and Exhibits Superior Barrier Protection to FTY720 in Acute Lung Injury.
Effective therapies are needed to reverse the increased vascular permeability that characterizes acute inflammatory diseases such as acute lung injury. FTY720 is a pharmaceutical analog of the potent barrier-enhancing phospholipid, sphingosine 1-phosphate. Because both FTY720 and sphingosine 1-phosphate have properties that may limit their usefulness in patients with acute lung injury, alternative compounds are needed for therapeutic use. The objective of this study is to characterize the effects of FTY720 (S)-phosphonate, a novel analog of FTY720-phosphate, on variables of pulmonary vascular permeability in vitro and alveolar-capillary permeability in vivo. ⋯ FTY720 (S)-phosphonate is a promising barrier-promoting agent that effectively maintains sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor 1 levels and improves outcomes in the bleomycin model of acute lung injury.
