Comparison of Awake and Asleep Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson's Disease: A Detailed Analysis Through Literature Review.
Deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson's disease (PD) has been applied to clinic for approximately 30 years. The goal of this review is to explore the similarities and differences between "awake" and "asleep" DBS techniques. ⋯ The surgical and clinical outcomes of asleep DBS for PD are comparable to those of awake DBS.

Safety and efficacy of different anesthetic regimens for parturients with COVID-19 undergoing Cesarean delivery: a case series of 17 patients.
To assess the management and safety of epidural or general anesthesia for Cesarean delivery in parturients with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and their newborns, and to evaluate the standardized procedures for protecting medical staff. ⋯ Both epidural and general anesthesia were safely used for Cesarean delivery in the parturients with COVID-19. Nevertheless, the incidence of hypotension during epidural anesthesia appeared excessive. Proper patient transfer, medical staff access procedures, and effective biosafety precautions are important to protect medical staff from COVID-19.

Clinical TrialAdjustment of oxygen reserve index (ORi™) to avoid excessive hyperoxia during general anesthesia.
The Oxygen Reserve Index (ORi™) is a non-invasive variable that reflects oxygenation continuously. The aims of this study were to examine the relationship between arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2) and ORi during general anesthesia, and to investigate the usefulness of ORi as an indicator to avoid hyperoxia. Twenty adult patients who were scheduled for surgery under general anesthesia with arterial catheterization were enrolled. ⋯ The cut-off ORi value obtained from the receiver operating characteristic curve to detect PaO2 ≥ 150 mmHg was 0.21 (sensitivity 0.950, specificity 0.755). Four-quadrant plot analysis showed that the ORi trending of PaO2 was good (concordance rate was 100.0%). Hyperoxemia can be detected by observing ORi of patients under general anesthesia, and thus unnecessary administration of high concentration oxygen can possibly be avoided.

Gentle facemask ventilation during induction of anesthesia.
To determine the level of inspiratory pressure minimizing the risk of gastric insufflation while providing adequate pulmonary ventilation. ⋯ Inspiratory pressure of 10 cm H2O allowed for reduced occurrence of gastric insufflation with proper lung ventilation during induction of anesthesia with sufentanil and propofol in nonparalyzed and nonobese patients.
