Pain management after ambulatory surgery: a prospective, multicenter, randomized, double-blinded parallel controlled trial comparing nalbuphine and tramadol.
Postoperative pain in ambulatory surgery is a multifactorial issue affecting patient satisfaction, time of discharge, and rehospitalization. This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of nalbuphine for the treatment of postoperative pain after ambulatory surgery, relative to tramadol. ⋯ Nalbuphine can provide effective and safe pain relief in patients after ambulatory surgery.

High-Frequency Spinal Cord Stimulation at 10 kHz for the Treatment of Combined Neck and Arm Pain: Results From a Prospective Multicenter Study.
Intractable neck and upper limb pain has historically been challenging to treat with conventional spinal cord stimulation (SCS) being limited by obtaining effective paresthesia coverage. ⋯ In conclusion, 10-kHz SCS can treat intractable neck and upper limb pain with stable long-term outcomes.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study Observational StudyTreatment of femoral fractures in children aged two to six.
Current American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) guidelines for treating femoral fractures in children aged two to six years recommend early spica casting although some individuals have recommended intramedullary stabilization in this age group. The purpose of this study was to compare the treatment and family burden of care of spica casting and flexible intramedullary nailing in this age group. ⋯ Both early spica casting and intramedullary nailing were effective methods for treating femoral fractures in children two to six years of age. Intramedullary stabilization provides an option in this age group that may be advantageous in some social situations that depend on the child's mobility. Fracture treatment should be individualized based on factors that extend beyond anatomical and biological factors. Cite this article: Bone Joint J 2020;102-B(8):1056-1061.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyMulticenter Perioperative Outcomes Group Enhanced Observation Study Postoperative Pain Profiles, Analgesic Use, and Transition to Chronic Pain and Excessive and Prolonged Opioid Use Patterns Methodology.
To study the impact of anesthesia opioid-related outcomes and acute and chronic postsurgical pain, we organized a multicenter study that comprehensively combined detailed perioperative data elements from multiple institutions. By combining pre- and postoperative patient-reported outcomes with automatically extracted high-resolution intraoperative data obtained through the Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group (MPOG), the authors sought to describe the impact of patient characteristics, preoperative psychological factors, surgical procedure, anesthetic course, postoperative pain management, and postdischarge pain management on postdischarge pain profiles and opioid consumption patterns. ⋯ Therefore, the study serves as a model for future studies using this innovative method. Full results will be reported in future articles; the purpose of this article is to describe the methods of this study.

10 kHz spinal cord stimulation for the treatment of non-surgical refractory back pain: subanalysis of pooled data from two prospective studies.
Spinal cord stimulation at 10 kHz is a promising therapy for non-surgical refractory back pain; however, published data are currently limited. We present a subanalysis of prospectively collected clinical outcome data for non-surgical refractory back pain patients treated with 10 kHz spinal cord stimulation, from the independent cohorts of two previous studies (SENZA-RCT and SENZA-EU). Clinical outcomes were evaluated at pre-implantation (baseline), 3 months, 6 months and 12 months following 10 kHz spinal cord stimulator implantation. ⋯ At 12 months, the combined cohort had an average decrease in ODI scores of 15.7% points from baseline and opioid use more than halved. In conclusion, 10 kHz spinal cord stimulation reduced pain, disability and opioid consumption in non-surgical refractory back pain subjects. Application of this therapy may improve the care of non-surgical refractory back pain patients and reduce their opioid consumption.
