Case ReportsGiant cell hepatitis and autoimmune hemolytic anemia after chickenpox.
Autoimmune hemolytic anemia with giant cell hepatitis is a distinct entity in children. It is usually fatal with progressive liver disease. Immunosuppressive treatment with conventional drugs offers some response; however, it is usually only temporary. ⋯ We report a case with autoimmune hemolytic anemia+giant cell hepatitis after varicella infection. She was resistant to standard immunosuppressive combinations, and rescue therapy with rituximab was used. Remission was not achieved with the drug and the child died with septic complication.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudySedation with midazolam versus midazolam plus meperidine for routine colonoscopy: a prospective, randomized, controlled study.
The major goals of analgesia and sedation are to provide pain control and anxiolysis and to facilitate therapeutic and diagnostic interventions. A combination of midazolam and an opioid is usually administered to achieve sedation and analgesia during colonoscopy. However, the value of adding analgesics to sedative agents has not been well evaluated. In this study, we compared the efficacy and safety of midazolam versus midazolam plus meperidine for colonoscopy. ⋯ Patient safety, outcomes, and satisfaction are similar in colonoscopy procedures performed under sedation protocols using either midazolam and meperidine or midazolam alone. Although endoscopists favor the use of both medications together, adding meperidine to midazolam before the colonoscopy does not seem to have additive beneficial effect for the patients.

Seroepidemiology of Fasciola Hepatica in Mersin province and surrounding towns and the role of family history of the Fascioliasis in the transmission of the parasite.
Fascioliasis is an important zoonotic disease caused by Fasciola hepatica. This zoonosis may cause serious morbidity and a considerable financial burden. Knowledge about Fasciola hepatica and interest in this parasite have increased in Turkey recently. However, there have been few studies on the real prevalence of this condition in the country. Therefore, we aimed to determine the prevalence of fascioliasis and the role of family history of the condition in the transmission of the parasite in the province of Mersin. ⋯ The prevalence of fascioliasis was hypoendemic in the province of Mersin. There were no significant differences in the Fasciola hepatica prevalence between the groups with and without family history of fascioliasis. However, studies with larger sample sizes may reveal a difference.
